Songs, stories, festivals, fire-parties, and lots of birthdays…It’s January!
January 24, 2014. No comments.
I have had a rather full time of it recently – including playing at Bradford Roots Festival, finishing a new song for Story Friday, finishing another new song (just because), recording some backing vocals, and having a mad music birthday party around a fire in a field in the middle of January! (that’s the fun stuff of course, you don’t want to hear about my tax return…)
Yes, I turned another year older. Which is why January welcomes in a new year in more ways than one for me. But how lovely to have a call on my birthday asking if I can pop down to the studio (that is only 10 minutes walk away!) to sing a few harmonies. Or to head off to a gig in town on the bus with only a guitar in hand, finishing off the lyrics as I go, to play a brand new song to a full house at Burdells Yard. How lovely to have a winter roots festival full of local talent and local ale down the road to get the year off to a good start.
And then the icing on the cake was my friends gathering to sing songs on a SUNNY Sunday afternoon through to a star-filled night in January for my birthday – and indeed Beth’s birthday too (the next day). We left the harp and the cello in their bags and she played fiddle and I rocked the double bass….you could tell I’d have potential if only I learned how to play it…
But enough of all this frivolity. We have a target to reach and I intend to do all I can to help that to happen because I’ve just been listening to Beth Neilson Chapman on Bob Harris Country and it reminded me of why why why it is I must write and sing and play and record and share my songs as much as possible. Cos you want to hear them. So thank you. Let’s do this x
