We didn’t rush home.
We had a big tasty English breakfast served by a nice smiley lady, read some newspapers and ordered more coffee.
Then the sun came out and we strolled along the river towards Richmond. An old man with a small bit of bread clutched in his bony hand was sitting on the fence looking out across the water. We bought ice-cream. It tasted better than I remember ice-cream tasting from a van. All creamy and yum. An attractive couple at a nearby table were chatting and smiling and surrounded by daffodils. It seemed that Spring had finally arrived.
We looked in little bookshops, bought some handmade cards and found some very exciting charity shop bargains. And bowls of fruit for only £1 – so we packed in as much fruit as we could.
The car park attendant begrudgingly let me off the extra 50p.
THEN we went home.
