Late? Blame the clock…

I will confess, I have been known once or twice to be late.
This is due to an unfortunate inability to calculate precisely the amount of time it takes to finish doing the thing I was doing before the next thing coming up that I need to not be late for. And also the amount of time it takes to get ready for the next thing coming up that I need to not be late for (after finishing doing the thing before). Comprendez vous? Perfectly logical.
However I came up with an excellent time management technique recently which is to simply add on half an hour more than I think anything could possibly take. And if I’m driving to a gig in this country, about 5 hours more.
But there are some things which could thwart even this cunning plan. Like the clocks going forward. In this internet-soaked world we are hardly likely to forget, but back in the late 90’s it was quite possible for the whole event to completely pass me by. Not really a problem being a Sunday – you would THINK. But I used to play the harp at the renowned Bath Priory Hotel and Restaurant every Sunday lunchtime. So one fine day I pulled myself out of bed and threw on some posh, harp-playing-like clothes, polished my shoes and went off to work as usual…only to be met with sniggers and whispers in the restaurant. Yes, I was an HOUR late. Ha Ha Ha
