A broken old bbq of a summer requires a little imagination
July 16, 2012. No comments.
So we squinted our eyes at the sun dappling it’s light on the rooftop pool against the blue sky and listened to the mingling voices of foreign tourists and pretended we were in Greece. When the bubbles came on; perhaps a jacuzzi on top of a hotel in Spain. In the steam room we closed our eyes and imagined we were lying on a beach somewhere – anywhere at all – swelteringly hot. We sat outside cafe’s, watched a man playing a fiddle whilst balancing on a tightrope, looked around the shops, and bought olives and pitta bread and something Mexican and tomatoey for tea. And a good bottle of red.
Sometimes I forget I live in a beautiful “world heritage” city and if the sun does break through the clouds for a few hours – with a bit of imagination – it’s almost like being on holiday.
I think I might go back again next year…after all it’s only 20 minutes walk down the road.
